Quite the opposite, actually. There are two reasons that Yoti helps to protect your identity information.
- How we share information:
Think about a time when you've used your driving licence to prove your identity. Perhaps someone wanted to just confirm your name, or age, or address. But instead of showing just that information, you actually show them all three pieces of information, as well as your signature and driving licence number! At Yoti, we believe in data minimisation; only sharing the information that the other person or business needs to know. That's why we allow you to choose whether to share the information a third party is requesting, and why we allow nightclubs and bars to request just your photo and date of birth.
- Data storage:
Traditionally, companies would collect lots of customer information and put it in one place (often not encrypted). That is no longer acceptable, thanks to cyber criminals. When you create your Yoti, we take the information you've given us, separate it, lock each bit with a different advanced code, and then store each bit separately. Your photo, name, date of birth and so on are all stored in separate areas with a highly secure unique code. So if someone did happen to breach our secure data centres, they would never be able to discover enough information to identify you as a person.
We're a security company at heart, if we weren't confident that we could keep your details safe, we would not release products.
